Cable Network Turns to Pop Culture Experts for launch campaign

LOS ANGELES — 80’s extra-terrestrial icon, ALF, and “The Tonight Show’s” legendary Ed McMahon are teaming up for TV Land’s new late night series “Alf’s Hit Talk Show”. And when it came time to create an advertising campaign worthy of launching this dynamic duo, the cable net turned to Stun Creative – helmed by Co-Presidents Brad Roth and Mark Feldstein. Over the past several years, TV Land has repeatedly collaborated with Stun to create award-winning work with an irreverent pop culture flare.

Each of the 3 comedic spots feature primadonna talk show host, Alf, in behind-the-scenes vignettes where he makes it painfully clear to sidekick McMahon, who the star really is (and it’s not Ed).

The first spot of the campaign has Ed McMahon blasting himself across the stage with a fire extinguisher in a stunt gone wrong. Another spot has Alf being tended to by five stylists while Ed has to settle for being outfitted in a cheap thrift shop suit that’s three sizes to small. The final spot is an exchange between Alf and his stage manager who informs the talk show host why it’s inappropriate to serve live cats (Alf’s favorite dish) in the greenroom.

“This is the second amazing odd couple that we’ve had the opportunity to work with thanks to TV Land,” says Feldstein. “First Mr. T and Tony Randall in a rap video and now Alf and Ed McMahon.” “We wanted to give a Larry Sanders-like quality to the spots to show what “really” goes on off camera between an alien and his sidekick.”

In previous years, Stun’s creative work for the cable network have included a rap video starring Tony Randall and Mr. T, which won Best in Show at the 2001 International Promax Convention, and a spoof of Madonna’s 2000 “Music” video starring Roseanne Barr. Also featured in the 2002 presentation were “The Jefferson’s” Sherman Helmsley, “Laverne and Shirley’s” Cindy Williams and Adam. West from the classic campy 1960 series, ”Batman.”

“Every year we have a blast producing these presentations for TV Land and Nick,” said Brad Roth, co-president of Stun Creative. “Who wouldn’t kill for the chance to work with the classic characters we all grew up watching?”
